When I first meet with clients about designing their office space, they often focus on the physical space instead of their organization’s overall vision.
Clients may have a laundry list of ideas for their new office thanks to images they have seen on Instagram and TV shows they watch that depict trendy offices.
But here’s the thing: you can’t mask bad company culture behind a chalkboard wall, beer tap and fiddle-leaf fig tree.
And you can’t create or improve company culture by plastering inspirational quotes on every wall and replacing conference tables with ping-pong tables.
Because organizations are made of people, those people must be the center of the design.
